This is an original Wassily B3 Lounge Chair, initially designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925. This particular example was produced by Gavina in Italy in circa 1968, and was imported and distributed by Knoll. It has the original thick off-white canvas upholstery, and has a chromed-steel frame that is tubular in nature, emblematic of Breuer’s best-known works. The chair has welded end caps, indicative of its authenticity, and there is a Knoll label that remains intact under an armrest.
The piece measures 27 inches deep, 31 inches wide, and 28.75 inches high. It has a seat height of 16.5 inches, and an arm height of 23 inches. We have intentionally left this piece in its present condition to showcase its important history, as the original canvas versions of the Wassily are rather scarce. There is some patina on the frame, and there are several stains on the canvas. There are also some superficial tears on the armrest and the seat that do not affect the stability or usability of the piece. Please see photos.
