Deep tissue massage therapy is a type of firm, manipulative practice that uses pressure and movement to release deep layers of tissue, including tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

Compared to Swedish massage or relaxation massage, deep tissue massage uses more pressure, is usually slower and can last for a longer duration.
